Trivia Weekend 2011 Theme Announcement
The strength and might of the justice league of KVSC has ended the saga of determining theme for trivia weekend 2011. Superheroes of Trivia: KVSC’s 32nd annual Trivia Weekend takes place February 11-13.
Trivia teams, summon your alter-egos and hone your research powers as KVSC’s superhuman trivia writers dig deep into the vast vault of superheroes. Get ready for action packed questions based on the historical comic book origins to the TV, films and video games that catapult superheroes into a multi-generational pop culture fan base.
As you endeavor to play for 50 hours of trivial madness…you’ll need to fight off common archenemies---sleep deprivation, failed Internet connections and your risky desire to eat tuna noodle hotdish that’s been percolating in the crock-pot for ten hours.
Trivia Volunteers—YOU save the day, well, actually the weekend for KVSC every February. We hope to see you and your secret identities (yes, costumes will be welcomed) on the phone bank February 11-13, during Superheroes of Trivia.
STEFAN'S DREAM REPEAT VICTORY IN 2010 TRIVIA WEEKEND
Feb. 14, 2010 -- Once the dust settled after the 31st annual Trivia Weekend, Stefan's Dream was able to keep the coveted 'Golden Urn' traveling trophy. Stefan's Dream XI: VENI, VENI, VENI won the 50-hour trivia contest with a score of 14,005 points for a repeat performance in another close competition. Coming in 2nd place was Mustache with 13,850 and Pull-Start Diesel rounded off the top three with 13,140 points. A complete list of final scores is available here (pdf).
Overall, Trivia Weekend brought in 67 teams to the annual event and hundreds of volunteers, alumni and staff to help make Trivia in 3D a success. The 50-hour weekend concluded with an awards ceremony and an after party at the Red Carpet Nightclub in St. Cloud.
A big thank you goes out to each of the 60 Central Minnesota sponsors who supplied our volunteers with the best food we could have asked for and prizes for the top three teams.
Trivia Weekend Partners With Four Stations
Jan. 25, 2010 -- Last year, KVSC brought Trivia Weekend to new audiences
in southern Minnesota with syndication to stations in Mankato (KMSU) and Austin (KMSK) along with translators in Albert Lea and Fairmont. This year twoadditional listening areas are included on this list: Thief River Falls, Minn. on Pioneer 90.1FM KSRQ and, for the first time, Trivia Weekend is broadcastinglive in Madison, Wis. in a partnership with WSUM 91.7FM – TheSnake on the Lake. Now in its 31st year, Trivia Weekend is simulcast live throughout much of the State of Minnesota and is now reaching out to other states in expanded coverage.

About Trivia Weekend
The History of KVSC’s Trivia Marathon
Trivia weekend was created to alleviate Minnesota’s infamous cabin fever and debuted in 1980 with 25 teams participating. In 2008, Trivia Weekend attracted 79 teams, 26 of them playing via the Internet from various parts of the country. As the weekend grew in popularity, so did its organizational sophistication. Last year, a record 24 trivia answer hotlines were staffed by volunteers. KVSC has more than 120 volunteers working toward the success of its annual-station event. In addition, dozens of St. Cloud businesses show their support with food donations or funds. We wish your team the best of luck in 2009. Visit our Trivia History page for a full report.
How Does Trivia Weekend Work?
This year marks KVSC's 31st annual Trivia Weekend. Each year, a different theme is chosen to pay homage to a popular movie, novel or pop-culture phenomena. Trivia in 3D was chosen in light of the resurgence in 3D movies and even in broadcast television. The questions asked represent a broad range of categories including: movies, pop culture, sports, science and history. Of course, teams can expect to be bombarded with many theme-based questions. After a team registers, it receives the official trivia kit, which includes a visual-trivia packet and two collectible posters. Kits are mailed to all teams outside the St. Cloud metro area. Trivia Weekend is habitually scheduled for the second weekend of February and begins on Friday at 5 p.m. Participating teams will endure 50 hours of non-stop trivia. Each hour, nine questions are broadcast on KVSC 88.1FM. The contest also features speed rounds (double questions), audio trivia and visual trivia. Teams outside the Central Minnesota area are encouraged to play, as well. Last year, numerous teams played nationwide via the Internet.
To ensure team success, we recommend that each team have a recording device in close proximity-- it comes in handy when audio trivia questions are broadcast. In past years, large teams have proven to be the most successful. There is no limit on team size, so be sure to conjure up as many brains as possible. The KVSC crew recommends that all teams have reference books, a steady supply of caffeine, extra cell phones and high speed Internet access.
The deadline to register is 4:30 p.m. Friday, February 11, 2011. The Awards Ceremony is at 8 p.m. Sunday in the Ritsche Auditorium in SCSU’s Stewart Hall.
